16 people killed as rain wreaks havoc in Karachi

At least 16 people have lost their lives in two days of torrential rain that hit the financial capital of the country.

With continuous downpour of two days, rainwater has inundated several areas of the city. Many areas are facing power outages for the last two days.

The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain with thunderstorm in the next 24 hours. The civil administration has failed to drain out the inundated water which has made the lives of citizens miserable.

The areas of Stadium Road, Malir, Korangi, Surjani Town, Kala Board, Mehmoodabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scout Colony, New Karachi-Ghareebabad underpass, Orangi Town, Metroville and Lyari are still inundated with water. The flow of traffic has also disrupted due to stagnant water outside the Nazimabad and Liaquatabad underpass.

At least 250 feeders of K-Electric got tripped due to last night’s rain. Most of the feeders have been restored but a majority of areas are still without electricity. Four people were electrocuted to death in the last night’s rain. The total toll of rain-related deaths has reached to 16.
