14-year-old Gohar Ali honored with 4th position in NASA’s contest

Pakistanis have always tried to brighten the name of their country at international level. Many of them succeeded in their aims and raised Pakistan’s name at various forums and made the nation to feel proud at.

People like Sumail Hassan Syed, Haroon Tariq, Saad Imran, Awais Imran and many like them received awards internationally.

In year 2014, 14-year-old Gohar Ali got “Grade 7 and Younger Honorable Mention” position in the International NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2014 Results. At present time, he studies in class 9th. He belongs to Sawat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwan (K-P).


Almost 562 registries were received by NASA in year 2014, from at least 1,567 students supported by about 222 teachers from 18 countries:

Space settlement contest was organized by American space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in which many students took part from a number of countries.

Gohar Ali launched Water Rocket and also composed an explanatory booklet on Solid propelled rocket at the time when he was studying in grade 7th.


He was invited by NASA for its conferences recently. He also did research on the “Nuclear Reactors for Space Application Propulsion and Power Concept” and his research was also published in Journal of International Space Technology. His research was also said to be the best research in Fourth International Conference on Aerospace Science & Engineering (ICASE). The conference on aerospace science and engineering was held at the Institute of Space Technology (IST)’s main campus in September last year.

The institute’s vice-chancellor Imran Rahman headed the plenary session which was addressed by international experts. Coordinator general COMSTECH Dr Shaukat Hameed Khan, chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Dr Syed Ismail Shah, and CEO National ICT R&D Fund Syed Muhammad Asif Rumi addressed to the conference. Almost 30 international scientists share their work research with researchers from all over Pakistan.

The conference was held to give a platform to all researchers and young scientist so that they could share their work with each other.

Moreover, his research also introduced the idea to design a special Nuclear Core Reactor for rocket that would work in micro gravity environment and through which radiation hazards would be decreased.

Gohar Ali occurred in the contest as a student of Hira High School Shahdherai Swat as well as he won the award at individual bases.
