Lahore: Members of the Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) Punjab took to the street in Lahore on Wednesday, demanding timescale and up-gradation.
The doctors stayed away from Outdoor Patients Departments (OPDs) and boycotted hospitals and as a result, hundreds of schedule surgeries were canceled and patients faced difficulties due to non-availability of doctors in hospitals.
Young doctors from Services Hospital and Punjab Institute of Cardiology and other hospitals blocked Jail Road while doctors from Mayo Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital staged a sit-in on Mall Road,
Doctors from Jinnah Hospital and Shaikh Zayed Hospital blocked Canal Bank Road and those from Lahore General Hospital and Children’s Hospital staged demonstration on Ferozepur Road while those from Punjab Dental Hospital blocked Ravi Road.
The protestors chanted slogans against the provincial government for failing to implement the promises made to them earlier.
The protests caused traffic jams and ambulances of emergency services got stuck in traffic snarl-ups.
The protest also caused inconvenience to the students, motorists and public to reach their destinations. The protesting doctors vowed that their protest would continue until their demands were not met.
