Rajanpur: Punjab seeks army’s help against Chotoo gang

Rajanpur: Punjab government decided to seek army’s help to eliminate the notorious Chotoo gang who have killed over ten policemen.

As fierce clashes between police and Chotoo gang of Rajanpur entered third week.

According to media reports, Chotu gang has handed over bodies of five police personnel who were martyred in yesterday’s confrontation.

Punjab IG Mushtaq Sukhera said that recovering the 18 policemen held hostage was their first priority.

SHO Hanif Ghauri, Head Constable Ajmal, constables Tanvir, Ubaidullah alias Fahim, Amanullah, Zabihullah were killed. Four injured policemen were shifted to the Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan, while 25 including DSP Asif Rasheed, SI Abid, Shafi Elahi were among the hostages.

Rajanpur DPO Ghulam Mubashir Mekan said around 200 criminals had rendered the 30-kilometre island-like area into a no-go area.

Gang’s leader, Ghulam Rasool Bakhrani alias Chotu bears head money of Rs 20 lac.

He is accused for ransom, murder, dacoities among other crimes, as many as 48 cases have been registered against him in different police stations of Rajanpur.
