Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his five family members on Thursday.
PM’s family served notices in a case pertaining to their offshore assets exposed in Panama Papers last Sunday.
Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan heard the case at the Lahore High Court (LHC).
According to media reports, the notices were issued to PM Nawaz Sharif, his brother Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, wife Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif, son Hussain Nawaz Sharif and two other family members.
The Sharif Family has been ordered to file response by April 18.
The court issued notices while hearing a petition filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffri.
Petitioner’s counsel, maintained that PM Nawaz’s family accumulated illegal assets worth billions of Pakistani Rupees in foreign countries at expense of national treasure.
Earlier this week, around 140 world leaders were alleged of offshore dealings and stashing money using tax havens after a document-leak in Panama’s firm.
Prime Minister’s son has confirmed owning offshore companies and trashed calls for action terming the procedure adopted by his family completely legal.
Earlier today, a similar petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking to declare Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as ‘ineligible’ after claims of Panama Papers.
