ISLAMABAD: World Music Day is being observed worldwide on Tuesday, June 21.
It is a day of free events to celebrate the universal language of music!
Conceptualised in 1976 by American musician Joel Cohen, World Music Day or Fete de la Musique is celebrated on June 21 every year.
The philosophy was to have all-night music celebrations during which amateur and professional musicians were encouraged to perform on streets and hold free concerts.
The day also known as Fete de la Musique was a music festival, which began in France in 1982. French Minister of Culture Jack Lang conceived the idea in 1981. Since then the day has been celebrated every year as the World Music Day.
This helps in making all sorts of music accessible to the public. It gives an opportunity to commune and share a special bond through music.
First practiced in France, World Music Day is now celebrated in most of the countries around the world.
