Joint Session of Parliament debates Panama leaks, PIA Privatization

ISLAMABAD: The joint sitting of Parliament, which is currently held in Islamabad today with opposition members likely to hold a warmed debate on Panama papers and PIA privatization.

The house presented fateha for the departed people on Sunday’s massive earthquake which rock Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some other parts of the country. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of National Assembly is chairing the session.

Head of the Opposition in Senate Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan starts the ongoing session of the Parliament with Panama leaks, emphasizing and spotlighting on offshore holdings of Nawaz Shareef family. Ahsan said that, “Everything Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son touched became gold”. Before the joint session opened debate started weather to talk about about the Panama leaks to continue or debate about PIA bill first.

Later, Opposition Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) today settled to extend its “conditional” support to PIA Bill over government’s assurance. Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah presided over the meeting.

The decision was finalize at a meeting of PPP’s Parliamentary Party, which finalized its agendy for the joint session of Parliament.

Pakistan People Party members held a meeting on the proposed PIA privatization and other significant bills. It was certain that legal advisor Aitzaz Ahsan would present the party’s stance in the joint sitting.

They also requested for withdrawal of all cases lodged against protesting PIA employees whereas Opposition party moreover demanded that PTV should be ordered to broadcast Aitzaz Ahsan’s speech.

Some of other agenda menu  includes reports of the committee on various bills and six bills, namely, the Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2014, the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2014, the Anti-Rape Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Anti-Honour Killing Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2015.
