Actor Matt McGorry from ‘Orange is the New Black’ will join Joe Biden, the Vice President on Tuesday at the University of Pittsburgh’s event to promote It’s On Us that is the administration’s public awareness campaign on campus regarding the sexual assault.
“I’m honoured to be speaking with Vice President Biden tomorrow on what’s a critical issue that affects an inexcusable number of women, especially on college campuses,” said Mr. McGorry, – who stars in ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder,” and netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black’’ – in a statement.
“For too long, many men have taken a passive position when it comes to preventing & dealing with the aftermath of sexual assault,” said Mr. McGorry. “Sexual assault isn’t just a woman’s issue. It is on all of us to create a shift that changes this,” he added.
The White House had launched the It’s On Us Campaign in Sept. 2014, and Joe Biden has taken the lead in motivating people to sign its “pledge” in order to identify & intervene in cases of sexual assault & to create an atmosphere where the sexual assault is unacceptable.
Students at over 500 schools held the related events & over 327,000 people made the pledge.
The vice president brought on a number of celebrities to assist to promote the campaign, including Kerry Washington, Jon Hamm and Lady Gaga who Biden introduced at the Academy Awards in February before her emotional performance of “Til It Happens To You,” that was a song about the sexual assault.
Lady Gaga and Joe Biden on Thursday will team up again for another It’s On Us campaign event at University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
Vice president then heads to University of Colorado Boulder on Friday for additional speech on campus sexual assault. McGorry’s recent push on the issue is portion of the It’s On Us Week Of Action.
