Former slave to be face of US $20 bill

Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew on Wednesday proclaimed the most comprehensive and historically figurative renovation of American currency in a century, suggesting to substitute the slave-holding Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman, the former slave and opponent, and to add women and civil rights leaders to the $5 and $10 notes.

A previous slave who helped many others to escape is to replace a slave owner as the face of the US $20 bill.

Harriet Tubman will be the first African-American to feature on paper currency in the US and will replace former slave owning President Andrew Jackson, though he will remain on the reverse of the note.
