LAHORE (Online): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting at committee room of Punjab Assembly. The meeting reviewed important features of Dealers Vehicle Registration System.
(DVRS) for elimination of bogus and nonregistered vehicles from the province.
The meeting decided to introduce Dealers Vehicles Registration System in Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad simultaneously and citizens will be facilitated for registration of motorcycle or vehicle through this new system.
Shehbaz Sharif said that abolition of motorcycles and vehicles with fake number plates is a challenge. Mostly vehicles and motorcycles having fake number plates are used in the incidents of crime or terrorism therefore effective steps will have to be taken immediately to stop such vehicles and motorcycles coming on the roads, he added.
The Chief Minister ordered effective legislation for checking use of vehicle or motorcycle with fake number plate and said that there should be punishment for those using vehicles with fake number plates.
Excise & Taxation Department should take comprehensive steps for curbing fake and unregistered vehicles, he added. Shehbaz Sharif said that DVRS is an excellent system; however, its scope will have to be expanded to every city. Corruption will reduce and resources increase through this system, he added.
He said that issuance of number plates from service centers of Punjab Information Technology should also be considered. Senior Member Special Monitoring Unit, Salman Sufi gave a detailed briefing regarding Dealer Vehicle Registration System. Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Parliamentary Secretary Mian Muhammad Munir, concerned secretaries and senior officials attended the meeting.
