RAWALPINDI: The people who attacked Junaid Jamshed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Saturday have been recognized.
The police have required the certification of their records from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in order to arrest them.
Sub-Inspector Raja Arshad stated that he has three men pointed out by Mr Jamshed and they have been recognized as Shah Faisal, Irfan and Akhtar and the police have determined their home addresses.
“We have the home addresses of the suspects and a police team will be sent to bring them to Rawalpindi to face charges,” the investigating officer said.
The police, already, had copies of the alleged tickets and after the attack they had asked PIA for a list of travellers on the airplane in order to regulate their addresses.
The police then asked NADRA to authenticate the information on the suspects and also found CCTV footage from the airport to help them secure their arrests.
According to the police, the three suspects belong to Karachi and had travelled to Rawalpindi to participate in Mumtaz Qadri’s chehlum.
It was also stated that the attackers had not grasped that they were travelling on the same airplane as Mr Jamshed and attacked him at the airport.
Earlier, a crowd at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport attacked Junaid Jamshed and an alarming clip of the attack made the rounds on social media.
A few people repeated slogans against the preacher and attacked him while alleging that JJ had committed blasphemy.
They hit several blows and then briefly free Jamshed and then attacked him again.
We have been looking for you, one male voice is heard saying in the footage.
Hit him, him him, they shouted.
Clearly traumatized, Jamshed continued quiet for the most part and offered the crowd to “talk” as the men provoked him. Jamshed then moved away into the airport’s arrival lounge.
