Afghan forces unprovoked firing will disrupt border management efforts: Aziz

ISLAMABAD (Online): Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz expressed serious concern over the continued unprovoked firing by the Afghan forces and termed the move will disrupt the Pakistan army’s border management efforts inside it’s territory.

Aziz also expressed grief over the killing of Major Ali Jawad Khan Changezi, who was injured by Afghan security forces at Torkham border crossing on June13. Aziz also offered his condolence and sympathized with the bereaved family, said a press release issued on Wednesday.

He said that strengthening of border management and facilitation of people and vehicles’ movement across the border was an important part of Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts besides checking drug trafficking and other illegal activities between the two countries.

The adviser said that a durable peace and stability across the border could not be achieved without taking effective measures for strengthening border control. “The border management is aimed at addressing the common concern of infiltration and hence to enhance mutual security of both the countries and their peoples,” he said.

The adviser emphasized that it is important for the two sides to resolve issues through dialogue. “These tensions are against the spirit of friendship between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is based on common religion, cultural values and strong bonds between the people of the two countries.”

He hoped for Afghan cooperation in addressing the security issues, especially cross-border terrorism, due to the unregulated porous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
